About Lauren.
Lauren Anderson is a director, producer, and AWGIE nominated writer. She is passionate about creating works that surprise, entertain, and explore emotion and heart amidst the unexpected. She loves working with science fiction, adventure, and above all, comedy.
Lauren holds both a Master of Film and Television (Narrative Directing) and a Master of Screenwriting from the Victorian College of the Arts. Her short films have screened around the world and won numerous awards including Best short film at MQFF and a nomination for the Iris Prize. Her comedy TV pilot WEBOCRACY won the 2016 AWG New Writers’ Script Competition, while her drama screenplay FUR was short listed for the AWG’s Monte Miller award. Lauren spent several years working as a writer’s assistant at Guesswork Television, learning from the development of iconic Australian comedies such as SLUSHY (Audible), ROSEHAVEN (ABC), GET KRACKIN’ (ABC), and DEADLOCH (Amazon).
As a writer, Lauren’s screen credits include episodes of kid’s animated comedy KITTY IS NOT A CAT (Channel Seven). In the unscripted space, Lauren has host written for many household names including Gordon Ramsay. Lauren currently designs game twists and more as a creative producer on the Logie and AACTA award winning AUSTRALIAN SURVIVOR (Channel Ten).
Lauren regularly collaborates with writer Meegan May under the banner of SO NICE PRODUCTIONS. Together they wrote award-winning comedy short THE GINGER CONSPIRACY and a short theatrical work for Theatre Works ATHENA, HUNTRESS OF MEN as part of Green Room Award winning SHE IS VIGILANTE program in 2019. Their first full length play, THE COUNTDOWN, is currently being developed with support from Theatre Works and Creative Victoria. In the television space, both Lauren and Meegan were selected for VicScreen’s STORIES FROM ANOTHER AUSTRALIA and are currently developing an original concept with Sydney production company Co-Curious.
Their queer sci fi comedy audio fiction series STARSHIP Q STAR has rocketed up the podcast charts around the world, hitting #1 in Comedy Fiction in over 60 countries, and the Top 10 or better in the overall Fiction chart in over 60 countries including #1 in Australia. Lauren is currently a participant in the ABC / Screen Australia FRESH BLOOD initiative for comedy creators, working to develop STARSHIP Q STAR into an animated series. Fun!
